Successful Dublin Law Tour with QUB Law Society

Events2 months ago

On Wednesday 25th September, 25 undergraduate and Masters Students from QUB Law Society visited four top Dublin law firms; McCann FitzGerald, Pinsent Masons, Matheson and A&L Goodbody as part of the 3rd Annual Dublin Law Tour.  They were accompanied by Hunter Savage consultants James Marren and Kenton Bell from Dublin and Belfast offices respectfully. All of the students received invaluable information about the Dublin legal market and the commercial opportunities that exist via the various Graduate Trainee Programmes of each firm.

First stop was McCann FitzGerald, where, over a lovely breakfast the group heard an inspiring presentation from Emma Crowley (Head of Legal Professional Training) and Emily Cunningham (Associate). Many thanks to Diane Hennessy and the team at McCann FitzGerald for their great insights and kind hospitality.

Next stop was Pinsent Masons where the students enjoyed an interactive workshop with two of Pinsent Mason’s Associates, Dermot McGirr and Niamh Murray. With the topic on Commercial Awareness, this provided the students with solid information which every law firm would be expecting introductory knowledge on, so it was a great help to everyone! Special thanks to Louise Wedick and her team at Pinsent Masons for the warm welcome and refreshments provided to everyone!

At Matheson, the students were treated to a fabulous lunch and networked with current trainees before being given a tour of the very impressive offices by the Graduate Recruitment team. The students then sat in on a Q&A session with trainees and graduate recruitment of Matheson to understand what life is like there. The students were able to ask questions on the route to qualification in the Republic of Ireland and what life is like for trainees at Matheson. Much appreciation goes to Carmel Mellet and the team at Matheson for taking time out of their busy schedules to provide really useful information into the firm and being super hosts.

The final visit was at A&L Goodbody where Lisa Doyle greeted the students. Whilst touring the firm, the students were again given a talk by A&L Goodbody’s graduate recruitment team on the fantastic opportunities working for A&L Goodbody. The busy day was finished off with drinks and canapes alongside the whole A&L Goodbody team, with students getting the chance to speak to professionals right up to senior associate level about the firm’s work and culture. A massive thank you to Lisa Doyle and the whole team for your time and wonderful hospitality.

Everyone had a full and fabulous day in Dublin, and a very big thanks to all the law firms as not only did they take time out of their busy schedules, but everyone left with a wonderful goodie bags at all every law firms – and they were enthusiastically received by all!
