HUNTER SAVAGE SCORES FULL MARKS WITH INAUGURAL DUBLIN LAW TOUR

Legal consultants from Hunter Savage, Áine Gilhooly and Declan Frith, accompanied 30 impressive QUB Law Students on the inaugural Dublin Law Tour on Wednesday 14th March.

Having co-ordinated a packed scheduled with 3 top tier law firms in Dublin the group set off and arrived at McCann Fitzgerald. With a warm welcome and coffee, they had their first meeting with Kate Honan and Lisa McGoldrick who provided great insights into opportunities for their employees, their clients and key practice areas of the firm. Following a tour of their facilities, the group received an impressive presentation by Tom Connor, Data Investigations Technical Specialist, on Artificial Intelligence, which is one of the current hot topics across industry. This was a great opportunity to inform the Undergraduates and Master’s students to equip themselves for the future.

The infamous wet and windy Dublin weather didn’t dampen their spirts and the next destination was to Matheson. With Carmel Mellett, Head of Trainee Recruitment, having arranged a wonderful informal lunch and opportunity to talk to some of Matheson’s current trainees, many questions were asked, and key topics discussed. This was followed by a trainee panel, which was the perfect pitch to engage with the students as it enabled lots of interaction and feedback into current opportunities within the Dublin law sector. The panel of trainees provided top tips on how to study for the Fe1 exams and how best to prepare for Blackhall. Matheson also generously provided fabulous goodie bags which were another lovely touch with this internationally renowned law firm.

The final stop of the day was at A & L Goodbody, who with the assistance of Nessa Kiely, Head of Trainee Recruitment, hosted a great evening for the group.  First for the students was a talk by Alan McCarthy, Partner EU, Competition & Procurement who delivered a very insightful and knowledgeable presentation on Brexit, and its implications on the legal market both for the UK and Dublin. Further engagement with pre-trainees and trainees providing a tour of their building and then joined by associates, they all enjoyed some drinks and canapes and an opportunity to network and with a lovely goodie bag, this finished off our first Dublin Law Tour.

Eve Pijl, 3rd Year Queens University Law student commented “I was amazed at the opportunities that are available in Dublin at these firms. Their work, culture and offices are all extremely impressive and had it not been for Hunter Savage Dublin Law Tour, I wouldn’t have considered even applying to the Dublin law firms. Now I am seriously considering starting my legal career in Dublin.”

Ronan Savage, Recruitment Director at Hunter Savage says “I would like to thanks A & L Goodbody, Matheson and McCann Fitzgerald for being so generous with their time and generous hospitality shown to myself, Declan and Áine, along with the QUB Law students, all of whom have left with such an excellent impression of the opportunities that exist in Dublin, and indeed the amazing company culture that underpins each of these top tier companies.  We are hopeful that Dublin will be a serious consideration for future career opportunities and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
